I knew the owner of both of those houses next to my apartment building...the ones with the new landscaping. In the 70's they were both owned by an elderly man who lived in 726, and rented the next one over. Rent used to be cheap in that area. I am sure I couldn't afford to rent an apartment at the Broadway Crest anymore...assuming they aren't condominiums. Whenwe first moved there in 1971, the rent was $105.00 per month, the light bill was around $5.00 a m onth, and when I was a teenager, in 1982, renting a garage in back cost $10.00 per month. When my dad moved out in 1983 his rent was about $325.00 per month. I'd be curious to know what the rent now...

More requests.... The 211 club in downtown Seattle...Both locations Bushell's Auction House on 2nd Ave Downtown Seattle. The old Bon Marche with the Christmas Star on it....

PS... The 3rd photo, of 726 broadway ave E, must have been taken from right in front of the Broadway Crest.

By the way, do you have any pictures of the next block north on broadway? I think it is actually the 900 bloxk, although it should be the 800 block. I am trying to find a picture of the first few houses on the West side of the street. I am looking for the name of someone who used to live in one of those houses, but I can't be sure which address is correct, because they have torn down some of the houses and rebuilt them. I have a clear picture of the house in my mind, so I know I will recognize it when I see it. It would be very helpful to my geneology work to find this out. Thanks! Fran

I forgot this apartment was named "The Albatross"

The apartment building you see way off behind the albatross is the Broadway Crest, 734 Broadway Ave East, where I grew up in the 70's.

There used to be a store on the corner of Broadway and Roy, call Angels...any pictures of that? The 76 stateion would be nice, just because it was there when I was young.

Andy's Cafe, Fred Meyer when it was Market Time, with Safeway inside it. The old Theater that got turned into a Rite Aid...that one is a CRIME... the Harvard Exit...

I know I have some old Seattle pictures somewhere. They may be in my storage locker... When I find them I will send them to you. I am the one who sent the picture of the Art Prints "Impressions" from the 62 world's fair.

Capital Hill is always cool with me!! When did you live on Capital Hill? What School did you go to? I would love to see pictures St. Joseph's and Lowell Elementary, two of the schools I attended.

Thanks for this site! I am glad I ran into it! I have been wanting to start to collect old pictures of Seattle.

For a while the "Undre Arms" was known as the "Under Arms.com." Not sure if the .com is still on the sign or not.

Albatross Apartments. That's an odd name for an apartment complex. Other ideas they thought of...Buzzard Apartments, Quothing Raven Apartments and Wrath of Maritime Supernatural Spirits Apartments.

Double A,

If you didn't go and move away you could have started VintageDuvall.org!

Bernie and Eldan,

Good suggestions. Been looking at places to live on First Hill as well and scouted out some areas of interest.

Belltown. Both because I live there, and because it seems to be the area that's changed most dramatically in recent years.

It would be cool to see some shots from the Magnolia area. Or maybe down near Pioneer Square.
