It was because he was such a good shot. Unfortunately, he actually DID have a dead eye and, in a Model T Ford driving along Lake Washington Boulevard, he missed a turn and crashed. He didn't die though he did lose his other eye. From then on he was simply referred to as, "Galer , the Poor Ol' Blind Duffer."
