Profile: Seattle Times Building

June 21st, 2007 @ 2:27 am by Cliffe | Sorted Historic Buildingsborder
As promised, we’re going to take a look at the Seattle Times Building, which you can find on 1120 John St in the Cascade area. This Art Deco building is particularly significant because it was the work of famous Seattle architect Robert Reamer. He is best known for his Old Faithful Inn building at Yellowstone National Park. The Seattle Times Building was completed in 1931, with major additions in 1947 and 1967. Let’s have a look and, as always, click on the images for a larger view:

Southeast face of the building. Reamer is also well known for his 5th Avenue Theatre with its traditional Chinese architecture. Northeast face of the building. Decorative elements have gone by the wayside on this section of the building, though the concrete pillars remain.

Truck packing bays on the Northeast corner of the lot. This area picks up around midnight with trucks coming and going. Wide angle shot of the Northeast loading bay area. Just across the street is the Troy Laundry Building.
