Continuing with yesterday’s hovercraft post and the August 1 Past Post, here’s the next in the Seattle World’s Fair overhead vintage postcard line.

This time around it’ s the Hawaiian Pavilion and International Fountain.

Vintage Seattle reader Brendan chipped in with word that the Pavilion is long gone and the fountain was renovated in ’95. If you look behind the fountain in the distance you can make out a Union 76 Gasoline ball. More on that soon!

  1. Brendan says:

Sadly, the Islands Of Hawaii pavilion is long gone – according to my copy of the Official Guide book (original cover price $1 – I found it for 50c at Twice Sold Tales, whooping with glee as I spotted it, many months ago), it used to be just to the east of the stadium, north of EMP, in what is today a parking lot.

The fountain got replaced in 1995 – more info here; the old one, as pictured, had nasty pointy water spouts, not like the kid-friendly one we currently have.

Good bits of info, Brendan. Updated the post w/ this.

The Hawai’i Pavilion survived into the early 90s, moved into the Fun Forest near where (until recently) the Jet Spin ride was located; the outrigger beams and scrolls came off, the walls were removed, and inside were skill games liker the old shooting gallery, when it moved away from in front of the Food Circus. Then it was storage, then it disappeared. Very sad.
