There are only a few things I can tell you about Elden. He (maybe she) probably wasn’t from the US of A. He (or she) wrote a few postcards one hundred years ago. Oh, and he (she) liked parks. At least, that’s what these vintage postcards of Madison Park and Kinnear Park would have us believe. Elden, what is your story? Click on the images for a larger view.

Poor, Elden, postcards must have been the unreadble text messages of his (she)’s day.
Great parks though. Chicago has some great parks like Seattle or did at one time. Although I am not sure if anyone named Elden visited.

They raise “pretty” trees in this country??
I’m guessing Elden was from the USA - the handwriting style is pretty typical turn of the last century American penmanship.

I’m guessing Elden is not from the USA - people usually write their notes on the flip side of the card. You know…where all that white space is?

These are great images. Since they’re from 1907 or earlier, apparently, they’re out of copyright. Would be perfect illustrations for the relevant Wikipedia articles–do you mind if we make use of them? Front (pictures) only. Your website would be listed as the source on the image page, of course. We’d cut off the writing if necessary, though it does make things more interesting.

While we’re at it, I think we ought to edit Shipley’s Wikipedia entry to mention his Justin Timberlake “problem.” Maybe his webbed-feet, too.

By the way, I just spent another 100 blasted dollars on some Seattle ephemera for the site. I’m beginning to think I should put up an ad. If only I didn’t hate ads on websites so much.
Either that or maybe we could have a “win a date with Shipley or Didi” auction?

I think my husband would object to that although it is quite the hilarious idea. LOL! But I am sure all the single ladies out there just LOVE Shipley and his fine sense of humor. Plus he might make more money being auctioned off on Ebay than I would. LOL!

What sort of ephemera did you pick up?
I’ve only ever bought old maps of Seattle, and those on eBay.

Bought a couple sets of candid snapshots and some World’s Fair programs and advertising material.
Try Pioneer Square, they’ve got a couple of great antique shops with interesting stuff. Though, it’s usually priced higher than Ebay.

If you zoom way out and just kind of glance at it… it looks like ‘mostly’.
