Ten million people came through the Seattle’s World Fair from April until October in 1962.

I don’t know who the photographer was or precisely on which dates they were taken, but here they are. There are a number of snapshots in this set, so I’m going to split it up into a few parts.

This reminds me… if you or anyone close to you has snapshots from the World’s Fair or any Seattle related street scenes from years past, please do send them in so we can all share them.

I really love to get glimpses like this from everyday people, it’s a nice alternative to the “official narrative” we’re used to from corporations, newspapers, etc.

I love how every World’s Fair seemed to be ahead of its time in terms of the buildings they built and showcased. Any idea if that is still true today?

Wonderful. I agree about the “official photos and renderings” vs. real folk’s photos. I’ve got some snapshots from the Oregon Centennial in 1959…completely deserted and not very action-packed unlike the kick-ass program that was given out.

Great shots! Always loved this fair…. No, not many of the buildings from todays “Expos” are ahead of their time. They have great architecture, and some of the buildings employ new techniques, but most are just modernistic structures
