We’re coming up on the 100th anniversary of 1909′s Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition. For more on the upcoming Centennial, check out this Seattle

Times article which even has a picture of Alan Stein (who once showed up in our comments). Sounds like an opportune time to admire some of those buildings erected for the Expo. Here’s one card’s text and thumbnails to click on.

Sadly, what the postcard writer didn’t realize was that Proffie’s promotion was to do just one thing – keep the kid down.

  2. Ben Lukoff says:

Too bad they didn’t keep more of the buildings from the AYPE..

  3. Alan Stein says:

Well hello. I visit your site quite often. It’s a favorite of ours down at HistoryLink. Keep up the good work!

  7. Hello there,
Came across your web site while doing a little research on the
    up comming A.Y.P.E. this summer.
Thought you might like to know that I have been working on
a model replica of the steamer ” POLITKOFSKY” which was
a part of that historical era. I am a master model ship builder and
so far have documented over 1000 hrs of her construction at a
scale of1:32 or .375 in = 1ft. Will have her ready including display
    case early this summer.
Would like to know of anyone who has built the “Polly” or can
share any information with me. Thank You, E.A.

I just got a vintage 1909 stereoview of the Fine Arts Building by Celery City View Company. Real photo. Very rare. David Spahr 207-845-2124.
