Memorial Day @ Vintage Seattle

May 26th, 2008 @ 1:30 am by Cliffe | Sorted Past Post |
We began Memorial Day a little early here at Vintage Seattle with Part 1 and Part 2 of our vintage Seattle parade photo collection. The conclusion was that it was a Memorial Day parade from the mid 1950′s. Now that the actual day is here, let us know in the comments what you did while honoring the fallen — whether it was at a barbeque, a cemetery, or both.

Not battleships, but cruisers. The one in the left foreground is a heavy, and in the right rear a light.

My mom is very interested in genealogy, and along the way became fascinated by old cemeteries, and so for Memorial Day I took her to the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery next to Lake View Cemetery on Capitol Hill…it looks a lot better now than it did 20 years ago when I first discovered it, tucked into a half block parcel next to its much bigger sister.
