Inside The Olympic

Redecorating your home ? Perhaps these two vintage photos taken inside the historic Olympic Hotel can serve as some inspiration. I can’ t da te them precisely. The only thing I know is that they are between 1955 and 1979 (this is when the Olympic was under the Western Hotels umbrella). But any reasonable guess would have fallen in that range anyway. Regardless, feel free to use the plea ther seating in your own home design. Click on the thumbnails for higher res.
What an eerie looking pre-served banquet. Food’s on the table, but there are no diners.
I hope they arrived soon after the photo shoot. Hasn’t the definition of luxury come a long way?
The hotel looks quite grand!
Cory Jean Beal was a Bellevue artist who did huge mosaics. She did the one of Paul Bunyon in the GSA building in Olympia, and she did the one that used to be in front of the City Light Building that is now in the lobby of the auditorium at the MOHAI.
She also did one for the grand ballroom at the Olympic (the second photo) although I don’t know what wall it was on. I’ve often speculated that if it was on the south wall, it might still be there, underneath the paneling that was installed during the 1980 renovation.
If it was on the north wall, it’s all gone – that was demolished to make room for the new auto court.
