They were probably taken in the mid 30′s when the Art Museum (now Seattle Asian Art Museum) opened up. Also check out the 1941 Art Museum postcard I posted back in January.

The state abbreviation typed on the 2nd postcard is curious: WN. I’ve never seen that before. Do you think that was a typo or was that a common abbreviation back then?

  2. Johnston says:

It’s not a typo. WN used to be used quite often before the Postal Service standardized the two-letter state abbreviations. It was even on some old license plates!

Thanks for posting! My grandfather, Noble Hoggson, designed the landscape around the museum for it’s original opening–it is great to see these visuals!

  4. Linn Blakeney says:

I too thank you for posting…. Noble Hoggson was my Dad… I love seeing more of the projects he did in and around Seattle.

Hi Don & Linn: Thanks for posting. If you have any old photos of Noble’s other work, please do send them to me. I’d love to post them.

This so much fun. I am related to you! My mother (Shirley Roberts Wheat Wright- Her mother was Harriet Hoggson Roberts) and I are sitting in Hilton Head South Carolina talking about her Grandfather, William J Hoggson, an Archtect in Greenwich and Florida. He was Noble’s bother and they started Hoggson Brothers in NYC on 5th Ave. Then we started talking about Noble’s family and I started asking alot of questions and then Googled Noble Hoggson
and found YOU! I am sitting on a chair from Great grandaddy’s architectural office!!

Uncle Mac Hoggson was a dear family relative. I actually was also a Landscape Architect (no longer practicing, got my degree from Univ of Penna in 85) I never knew I had an LA for a relative! I did know we had an architect in the family.

Would like to know about you! Mother thinks you have a sister. Is her name Lanie.. ?? Mother’s number is 843-671-4330. My cell is 404-915-9264. I live in Atlanta..

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I have a brother named Lane ( Noble Maclean)… I am thinking Uncle Mac used to call him Laney ( I do too sometimes).

I too am looking forward to talking with you… And your Mother!

Thanks so much for Googling my Dad!!

Hi. I have a very cool antique office chair with Hoggson Brothers NEW YORK imprinted on a metal tag on the back of it. Wondering if prior or among their architecture work, they manufactured office chairs too??

  9. Sherry Wheat says:

Yes Ann they did make chairs…’we’ have a couple of them too!!
