n is back! Ok not really, but the scene does look suspiciously similar to the now infamous tea cup woman’s. Same photo shoot, perhaps.

  1. Hmm, that view is flipped, placing I-5 and downtown Seattle (what little there is of it) on the wrong side of the picture. What makes the image doubly odd is that the place settings in the foreground are correct (knife/spoons/glass on the right, forks on the left) which means that they had to have been set wrong in the original image. Weird.

  2. RPH says:

The image seems correct as confirmed by the silver settings and the SSW demarcation on the window post, with Smith Tower to the south and the viaduct and Elliot Bay to the right. None of the diners appear “natural”, as any average person would be smiling and taking in the exciting view. Imagine the photographer telling them, “Look natural! Don’t look out the window, and don’t smile!” Burnt orange rocks!

I see two despondent women in that photo! Also, I love the groovy candleholders.

  4. didi says:

Shipley is right. Tea cup lady needs a better hairstylist.

What’s more frightening, is that those orange drinking glasses in the foreground? I think I have those. I use them as my “every day” cups. In fact, I own a lot of orange dishes.

Forget the bad hair.. those are seriously bad suits.

  7. My bad. I didn’t spot the Smith Tower, which led to my confusion.

  8. Julie Anne says:

The Smith Tower is directly above the offending finger of the pointing man.

It’s easier to see in Cliffe’s hi res version if you clock on the photo.

But there was definitely some obscuring mist – nothing is very clear. Or is that the UV protection film on the windows to keep the restaurant from getting too hot?

  9. I think this is from a meeting of the Emotionally Abused Wives and their Spouses Club of Seattle.

Oh, oh, Shipley, watch out. I was told once by a librarian that orange/red dishes of the 50s/60s actually contained toxic substances.

They are nice too look but I want them far, far away from me.

  11. Barb says:

you are all cracking me up. I especially love the “offending finger”. Love it.

BTW, what do they all have on their plates? looks like a thin slab of steak… or meatloaf or something?

  12. Linder says:

Barb: Looks like that meat could actually be folded napkins – compare with empty table in foreground.

And orange so everything matches the Needle exterior, of course!

  13. TomK says:

The view is not flipped. The view is looking south from the Needle. The highway in the background is the Alaskan Way Viaduct, not I-5. The water is Elliott Bay, not Lake Union.
