Dan Davis e-mailed me further info:

----------

"If you look at the maps.live.com bird's eye view just right, it still shows the area before construction began. You can clearly see the Plaza Motel and its swimming pool. In the top photo, looking west, it's center-right, the pool white and empty. The second photo looks south, motel and pool in lower left. The last photo looks north with the edge of the pool hanging out over 6th Ave. N.

The stair-stepped building to the south was the Continental Plaza Seattle."

What kind of car is that behind the fence? Nice fins! And what's that green squared building thing beyond the car? Creepy indeed.

That kid looks like he's being held up and forced to walk the plank. And from the viewer's perspective we're some sort of pervert watching the whole situation unfold.

There is something kind of creepy voyeur about this shot. That or it's like the "Lowered Expectation" ad of motel marketing.

Grandma Dottie was excited about seeing little Jimmy do his patented swimming pool diving move, "The Dolphin Fountain of Joy." Soon after this shot, however, Grandma Dottie had to jump in and save Jimmy because it turned into the Dolphin Fountain...of DOOM!

I was gonna say, I don't believe there have been any real motels on that stretch of Aurora for many years, with the exception of that one seedy one-story motel right across the street from this that is a notorious prostitute/drug motel.

It's a little of both - one of the building still exists, at least as a shell, and the rest were torn down. The back buldings, the parking lot, and the pool area was completely torn up for the new condos, but the tallest and largest building, the one that runs along Aurora, was gutted and new units are being built into the same concrete and steel shell.
