LIFE In Motion 1962

Couple nice color shots of the Monorail from July 1962 from photographer Ralph Crane. They go along with this collection. I’m gearing up for a photo shoot myself — I’ll be down in New Orleans next week documenting the city. Click for the high-res versions.

Love this website, but I just got back from New Orleans 2 days ago and it’s one of the most amazing cities I think I’ve been to. I hope you really enjoy it.

Oh, those are both gorgeous! I wish the Space Needle were all orange again–look how beautiful it is! This grey city could use a splash of color like that.

that second shot is now my new desktop background image. SWEET.

could the Chief Seattle Garage be the Moss Alley garage of today?

  5. Colin says:

yeah, and the Johnson – W? Music service is now social services.

  6. Cliffe says:

Isn’t the garage now Fat City?

The garage is now Fat City. The second photo was the cover shot for the issue of Life Magazine that was published when the World’s Fair opened.

Awesome 60s shots. Enjoy New Orleans mate, don’t forget them prop wallets..

  9. Barb says:

You are absolutely right it is Fat City. My bad. Incidentally, I found myself standing at this exact spot yesterday morning by pure happenstance and got a big kick out of it. I like Fischer Plaza, but it ruins this view of the needle which made me sad.

Great Website. Thank you. Have been enjoying the “nostalgia trip” back to
the World’s Fair days where I worked at the Space Needle as a Security Guard.
Crowd control was unbelievable. But we had the pleasure of escorting several
VIP’s up the special elevator from the lower level. Elvis Presley, John Glenn.
John Wayne. Many others. (Even some relatives, oh oh!)

It was a great year. Thanks to Jim Mandes for the job while I was attending the Univ of Wash.
