Aurora Bridge, Through The Lantern

Just back from New Orleans and wow what a city. Though I am glad to be back home in Seattle. It isn’t easy to get to sleep when your hotel is on Bourbon Street and you have to wake up at 7am. Had a great time though. Anyway, back to VS. Check out these hand colored, 1930′s era lantern slides showing the Aurora Bridge. The first one is higher res than normal so you can have a look at all the houses. Click on it for more.
The Aurora Bridge opened on February 27, 1932.
Correction: even Wikipedia isn’t perfect. The same article states both the 22nd and the 27th as the opening day. History Link confirms the 22nd.
Aurora back in its hayday! I don’t see any “prostitution and drug watch zone” signs back then..
I live on 41st + Whitman – just a block west of 99. There is a lovely pitch roofed, yellow craftsman (EARLY craftsman…victorian influences) home still there. If you zoom in in the upper left side of the photo you can make out the faint, unique silhouette. Amazing!
correction a block east!
Of course, you must know that the correct name for this bridge is the “George Washington Memorial Bridge”.
