The Home Depot is on Hwy 99 North, not South. I used to drive by that Holiday Inn, years ago when I worked at Boeing. It’s a Red Lion now, and that entrance wing was either remodeled or different from the artist’s conception.
The drawing is a generic one used for the Holiday Inn chain’s proposed hotels in many locations. The actual building still exists (or did at the time Google maps aerial photo was taken) at the edge of the Duwamish River across from a Boeing office building on old US 99 enroute to Sea-Tac. As built the Holiday Inn at thsat location was substantially different from the generic one shown, built on a much smaller site than the chain used for motels next to Interstates in outer suburbs. The Google map the link goes to with a current Home Depot store is actually on Aurora Ave North, not Pacific Highway South.
This building still exists. Not a Holiday Inn, but last I noticed, still a motel. It sits just North of the Duwamish River and the Hiway 599 cutoff on a section of Pac Hiway now known as Tukwila International Boulevard. If the artist’s rendition were accurate, you would be able to see portions of the Duwamish River to the right of the motel. This is about 6 blocks from my home, and there is no Home Depot any closer than South Center — about an hour away by bicycle.
Oh, now I see. The photo you have of the Home Depot is in the North end on Aurora. Yes, Aurora is still Hiway 99, but it has never been Pacific Hiway. The address number is the same, but putting North after the number puts the motel just South of Seattle, but with South after the number, you end up in Tukwil, South of Seattle, outside the city limits.
My wife and i were very lucky Michael could finish off his preliminary research from your precious recommendations he gained when using the weblog. It is now and again perplexing just to be releasing steps some other people have been selling. And we all discover we have got you to be grateful to for that. Most of the illustrations you made, the easy site menu, the friendships you can help to promote – it’s got all unbelievable, and it’s making our son in addition to our family reckon that the theme is awesome, which is certainly especially essential. Thank you for everything!

I can still remember when there was a Drive-In Theater on the other side of the highway.

I think you’re wrong about the address. 11244 Pac Hwy S would be in south Seattle (now incorporated Tukwila), not north Seattle.
Thanks for the blog. I enjoy reading it.
People in the pool, but nary a car in the parking lot? Looks like a few peeled out, laying rubber near the entry – but where’d they go?
Might this be in Tukwila, with the RO (Roxbury) telephone number?

I just wish more hotels offered advanced teletype reservations. The world would run much smoother, if you ask me.
It’s A Red Lion Hotel now, with a Tully’s drive through window at the lobby!
Here’s the street view:

The place doesn’t quite appear as it was drawn.
Superb article. Thank you.
Woah! I couldn’t have said that better if I tried LOL. I totally dig your writing skills and your blog! Please do keep up the excellent work!
