What's with all the huge loudspeakers on the next level up? Did it play music or space age sounds during the fair? Anyone remember? (I was only a few months old at the time...) It looks like an egg-timer now. I was very fond of the sleek needle of my youth. And anyway, wasn't the whole point supposed to be that a space ship had landed on top of a tall platform? Having a similar-but-not-the-same kind of massing of structure down below sorta takes the wind out of that theme, IMHO. Anybody else prefer the pre-addition Needle?
