This interesting article about Ivar Haglund’ s hou

Check out the comment from Paul Dorpat — he mentions that Woodie Guthrie and Pete Seeger spent time there in the early 40′s. It seems Ivar was a colorful man. Here’s an old photo I dug up from my archives of Ivar’s down on the waterfr

Circa 1950. What were the dates for the spiny neon fixture that topped it in later years?

Nickbob – As a kid, I remember seeing a multi-colored neon porcupiny globe when we would return to Seattle from Bremerton on the ferry probably in the early 70′s. I never could recall exactly where that was but I think maybe you’ve helped me with that puzzle. Thank you!

I can’t believe they’re destroying his house! This is so typical!

  4. Nickbob says:

Jana, I recall it from the 60′s when traveling the opposite way on the Enatai or Kalakala.

The neon art was a metal globe about 3-4′ in diameter with about a dozen or so triangular spines with different colored neon attached to each one. The globe was bisected vertically, each hemisphere would turn counter to the other and the pair would turn horizontally on the support pole. No logo or other signage, but a great eye magnet.

Colin is right. The teardown sucks.

I am quite sure that is a 1952 Chevy in front.
