Vintage Seattle reader David Sleipness writes in with this vintage 1955 photo of his mother and the rest of the “girls of Bartell’s Fountain” in Northgate. Thanks for the submission, David. And Keep those Seattle related photos coming.
Those are great! Thanks for sharing, David – I’m glad someone snapped some photos of your mom at work – my Grandma waitressed in the Seattle area from the 1950′s-1970′s but I have no photos so I’m visualizing her face on these . . .
Corn beef cabbage on the board in that first shot. Nice. And it looks like there’s a single, jauntily propped bottle of Miller High Life on ice in the second shot. As if it were champaigne or something. I love this. Thanks David!
65 cents for the corned beef, or go cheap and get the halibut for 60 cents!
From my inbox:
“Thank you for posting the pictures of the girls of Bartell’s…. I worked at the Bartell’s Fountain at Northgate in 1968 and we wore the exact same uniforms.
I love your site… I was born and raised in Seattle.
