Two images, 1878, forming a panaramic view, depicting the Seattle waterfront from Denny Hill. Original photograph by Peterson Brothers and copied by Theodore Peiser and later attributed to Asahel Curtis. The two photographs include views of Elliot Bay, Yesler’s Wharf, sailing ships, and the original University of Washington. Image courtesy Washington State Digital Archives.

Darn! I was hoping to find the “oldest house in Seattle” from one of the past What Year Was I Taken posts, but alas, can’t seem to find it.

Presumably it would be to the right of the old UW building along 4th Avenue, but is either too fuzzy or possibly blocked by something else in the picture.

What a bucolic setting, now crusted over with concrete, asphalt, and steel.

We’re being attacked by the Russians. And their being sarcastic!!

  4. Julie Anne says:

Is there even a single structure left that was extant in this photo? Seriously. I’ve been trying to find one since Jess posted it. No luck.

  5. Cliffe says:

    I would guess not.

  6. TomK says:

Probably the only bit of structure still existing (though not in the same location) would be the four columns from the front of the original University of Washington building (the white building with cupola in the far upper left), which are now located in the Sylvan Theater on the “new” Montlake campus.
