Ross Shire Hotel 1914

You know I love those regrade shots and here’s another classic. The 1914 snapshot shows the Ross Shire Hotel at 6th & Marion. Seattle Municipal Archives has a really nice slideshow called Reshaping The City showing some of the many engineering projects undertaken by civil engineers over the years in our city. Give it a look and click on the thumbnail for high res.
Great photo, Jess. Am I right that this house is the same one that you can partially see at the left edge of the photo in your much-argued-about post back in November?

It’s in the right spot and the windows all match, but there seems to be a captain’s walk added here. I think the other photo was around 1911, so can we imagine that the owners of this house added this rooftop feature in the intervening three years?
I do believe you’re correct.
It looks like they lowered the thing to street level soon after this photo. Hard to believe they could do it without destroying it.
