Time’s A Changin In Bellevue Pt. 3

Here we have some late period Max R. Jensen photography work. The outrageously loud colors should tip you off as to the decade. Yep, the 1980′s — Jensen’s last decade of postcard work after having documented Seattle the environs since the 1940′s. Click for high res and you may want to put on some sunglasses.
Surprisingly enough, most of what’s shown in the foreground of the second photo is still largely intact today (a rarity for Bellevue.) I know that the Pay ‘n Save store (now a Rite Aid) dates back to 1963, and looks rather dated now, but it’s still around.
Interesting that that little clump of firs lasted so long. Are they still there? The Milk Barn was within a few yards of that grove. I remember my mother driving up to the window to pick up milk there. And so was a swimming pool that we called “the Olympic Swimming Pool” but I don’t think that was its name, I think what was meant by that was that its measurements were of official Olympic Games proportions. Anybody else remember the Milk Barn and the pool? Louis? Greg?
I’m referring to the firs in the second photo, btw.
Isn’t the Bellevue institution “Broiler Bay” just off the right edge of the bottom photo? I recall eating plenty of lunches there in the 80s when I worked in Bellevue.
That would be correct, although it would be behind the trees. Still around too.
I do remember the milk Barn and the the pool and yes it was called the olympic swimming pool I had swimming classes there on Fridays during the school year the deep part of the pool was in the middle of the pool, It was gone by the 1980′s Bud’s meats was south of the pool it had the best meat it close after Costco opened in the mid 1980′s as he helped set -up the meat department at Costco ( At least as I was told )
Bellevue…….
I missed that city.
I wish that I can be there again someday…..
here are some photo’s that I took when i was there

Regarding the pool I worked at Benjamin’s in the late 80s and remember taking a break on that side if the restaurant. I would look down at the empty pool and see little flashes from someone’s lighter as they lit up “something” several times while I was there. Hmmm. Interesting.
