Just a 1917 card from Myrtle to her mother in Spokane. She expected to be home before the postcard arrived. But was sh e? Duh duh dunnnnnn. Click on the thumbnails for the high res versions.
This really was a cool thing. A young woman (or young man, for that matter) could arrive in the big city and begin making their way, taking relatively inexpensive rooms at the Young Men’s or Women’s Christian Association, breaking fast and taking tea with newfound friends, pooling energies and ideas, networking, etc. A lot of things made sense the olden days. But here I go again. Somebody throw a blanket over me… Thanks for this post Jess. For some reason it just makes my day.
I will hazard a guess that the YWCA doesn’t look like that anymore.
