Space Needle 1966

Photographing the Space Needle never gets old. Just as we do today, Marion Dean Ross captured this shot in May of 1966. Is it is the signature architectural piece from the 1960′s, what is your favorite icon from the 1970′s? 1980′s? 1990′s? Tell us in the comments. Click for the high res.
This is it. My favorite icon. When I was a kid growing up in Bellevue, I dreamt of having a place with a view of the Space Needle. I realized that dream, when I lived just above I-5 on Capitol Hill in the 1980´s:

I still wish it were orange on top.
Expert use of the subjunctive in that last sentence, Lou. The Space Needle is my favorite icon from the ’60s, too. I’ve been puzzling about the other decades, though. Since I don’t know the dates of a lot of those newer “architectural pieces” or even the decade sometimes, I’m at a loss. I do think the Rainier Square Tower (the “pedestal building”) is still a stunner. And I’m big on the way the WaMu Tower (the first one) preserved the Brooklyn and created such a cool public space on Second Ave. Peregrine falcons nesting in its eaves helps, too, makes it seem blessed. More recently, if you consider that we all griped and moaned over how ugly the Kingdome was, it’s fair and just to note how cool the new baseball stadium is (I don’t like to say it’s official name, gives me hives). Those are a few, but I could be pursuaded. Tickle me…
I’m sorry, I just apostrophized the possive of it. I’ll go drop and do twenty.
