What a hot one this weekend, eh? And speaking of hot ones — Vintage Seattle reader Allen

is back with a hot one… a hot vintage Seattle elite hot one of a photo. As if his recent Pike Place shot wasn’t hot enough (OK I’ll stop), he sends along this image showing C.B. Blethen and family outside their home. When you’re a Blethen I suppose there’s no stopping you from rolling your hot ride right onto the lawn! And in true Seattle fashion, the house is no longer around (sigh). Allen writes:
I bought this just a week ago at a downtown antique store:

I had no idea what i was buying at the time. I was only interested in the image of the car. Imagine my surprise when a quick internet search turned up all the info on the Famous Blethen family of Seattle. A slightly deeper search turned up the info on the house. (The link at the Flickr account shows other images of the home.)

Amazing! But you’d think the Blethen family would want this photo if they found it. It always makes me wonder when I see stacks of family photos for sale at antique malls. All those people were somebody to someone and now they’re just anonymous nobodies for $1.50 each. Great find and researching though!

I was just informed that the car is a 1906 Winton Model K.

I’m glad you found that photo – it’s a good one. And I agree with Colin about all those people touching other people’s lives in some way.

Any chance you might let someone take a copy of this photo??? I know the Blethen’s and would love to get them a copy for a present. I know they would enjoy it!

I bought this at Seattle Antique Market down on the waterfront. They had another copy at the store only a week ago. It was basically the same image only everybody was positioned differently. It may still be there. Although, I would act fast in order to get it before it gets swiped up.
Otherwise you are more than welcome to make a copy from the image above.

I recently came across the book “Raise Hell and Sell Newspapers: Alden J. Blethen & the Seattle Times.”
This picture was in the book. By that I mean it appears this exact same copy of this photo was the one used in the book. The blemishes on the book copy match the ones on my copy.
