Passing Luna Park 1910

October 21st, 2010 @ 12:22 am by Cliffe | Sorted Photo Exposure |
Below find a circa 1910 photograph of a ferry boat passing Luna Park on its way to Alki Point, a trip that cost just 10 cents at the time. I don’t find tons of great shots of Luna Park and this one is fairly clear.

What a great shot! Steamer Camano. Looks like she’s out of Marysville? 10c to get to Alki!

Looked at couple of Consumer Price Index converters to see what $.10 in 1910 would buy today. Seems like $2.25 is in the ballpark. If the Camano was sailing between Colman Dock and Alki, the current West Seattle/Downtown Water Taxi cash fare of $3.50 makes the Camano a real bargain!

WOW!!!Nice photo, a different view of the park than what I’ve seen before. Check out the folks in the dingy tied up to the buoy, wonder what they’re up to?

“Below find a circa 1910 photograph of a ferry boat passing Luna Park on its way to Alki Point,” – ahem… it’s headed toward Fantleroy – Alki would be to the left (North)

Mmmmm…… Don’t think so John. Luna Park was off Duwamish head (you can still see the remains of some of the pilings at very low tides). The Camano is passing Duwamish Head in the photo, heading West. The “Alki Point” banner on the bow railing is consistent with the direction of the Camano.

  6. Stunning photos, you have, and just love this one!

This is such a wonderful photo! I’m counting maybe a dozen dwellings on the hillside and top of the hill. Does anyone know of a comparable ‘now’ photo? I’m curious how many dwellings are there now…
