Vintage Seattle reader Kristin Kennell was kind enough to send in this 1930′s shot snapped from the University Bridge. It was taken by her father, Ed Kennell, and was his first 5×7 negative. Thanks Kristin.

Looking North towards Wallingford it seems. 7th and 8th Ave. NE are seen stretching into the distance.

Mmmmmm…all them wooden boats. Delicious. I’m struck by the way the indigenous evergreen canopy is replaced by a forest of telephone poles. It seems odd that even so late there would be so few trees that have grown up above the rooflines. Thanks Kristin and Jess!
Thanks for these photos. I am enjoying them. I only knew Seattle briefly in 1959/60 and now am back again.
“Gilmore Products”, sponsors of Colonel Roscoe Turner, and his lion cub Gilmore. This shot makes me want to walk to Husky Stadium after breakfasting at Voula’s
For some reason this picture makes me think of Saturday morning trips to the hardware store, in the rain of course, with my Dad in his “shop” clothes. It might include a glimpse of a train passing through, the smell of coffee and his cigarettes. Camels of course. I love the feel these pictures bring with them.
