I wish I could have gone “into the heart of the city” via the Locks. Guess they changed the layout.
Seeing the Sightseer reminds me of the Goodtimes boats, and all the great times we used to have when the Inland Boatmen’s Union used to go out on strike and strand those of us who lived on the west side of the Sound.
I wonder what became of the Sightseer? Scrapped I suppose.
Looks like she was born the “Vashona” in 1921. Built by the Martinolich Shipbuilding Company in Dockton, WA on Maury Island. Purchased and retrofitted by Gray Line in mid 40s, (45?46?) She raced the Virginia V in 1948 down the Seattle waterfront as part of a Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society event, (she lost to the V.) I can’t find anything on her past 1962 when Gray Line retired her.
I love the old boats… it’s sad that so many of them don’t survive. However a sight seeing boat with 1-2 life boats, look out.
My Dad,Capt. Donald L. Moss was the Captain of the Sightseer when she raced the V.V. He ran the tour boat Sightseer from ’64 to ’84, then he was the Capt. of the Virginia V until 2000
